VG RARE Bareuther Waldsassen Bavaria Germany Child Porcelain Plate At Play; produced circa 1904-1930. Lovely child at play motif decorates this plate, along with bunches of wild strawberries. The transfer ware depicts activities throughout the day - dog play, sleep/nap time, at the beach, and ball play. Cobalt blue rim detail, shows a bit of wear. Measures 5 1/2 x 5/8". No chips or cracks on this white wear. Elegant BW blue makers mark stamp with crown and wreath on reverse.
The pottery was established in Waldsassen in 1866 by Johann Mathäus Riess who gained experienced in the C.M. Hutschenreuther factory.
At the turn of the century the factory gained an excellent reputation. In 1904 the factory was transformed into a joint-stock company. In 1930 employing some 700 workers. Unfortunately, the factory and porcelain stock was almost completely demolished during the WWII. Despite this, they hired a large part of Porzellanfabrik Königszelt A.G. employees, who were forced to leave Silesia as the region was declared Polish. Little remains of this pottery during this time, particularly 'non-essential' items such as child scaled porcelains.
