The 539th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron was formed on 23 March 1953, and Activated 18 April 1954, it served with various Air Defense Command units: 4709th ADW 1955; 4700th ADW 1954, 4709th ADW 1955; 4621 ADW 1956, 4730th ADG 1957; New York Air Defense Sector 1959. It was stationed under those preceding units at Stewart AFB, NY, and later McGuire AFB, NJ, between 1954 and Inactivation on 31 August 1967. The Emblem was Officially Approved on 9 December 1967. Truly an emblem from Aviation history!
