    The 4 perches are approximately 7 inches to 8.5 inches long.
    I personally made the perches from trees growing on my property. They are untreated, neither pesticide nor finish, so they are pet-safe, except possibly for birds. The perches are quite heavy and sturdy, once sufficiently tightened via wing-nuts (included) that hold the perch to the cage. (We have a perch attached to a shelf in our laundry room and hang clothes from it...works great).  Pliers are ok,  but be careful not to overtighten and damage the perches using tools on them.  Thanks for your interest!
