manual reset limit switch
operates like a regular limit switch. But - after reaching the maximum temperature, the switch trips and will stay in
OFF position until someone reset it
.
They are an important safety element in a combustion system; if they interrupt the power supply there is something wrong (fan motor bad, air flow restricted, filter blocked, plugged vent and so on). This is the reason why they do not automatically reset, someone needs to inspect and repair the system.
Limit switches work under harsh conditions in a heater because of the excessive heat, dust, and high usage. It is a good habit to replace those "little troublemakers", It may not always solve the main problem, but at least one possible problem is resolved.
