The mortise axe is a specialised axe designed for hewing mortises and joints in timber framing. The axe has a long, narrow head, giving it more reach in tight spaces. The shape of the blade enables you to hew in deep notches, making a faster work of what would take longer with a chisel.
It's made from 1080 steel, a high performance steel that has high shock resistance.
It is hand forged, hardened and tempered into a tool that will last you a lifetime or more.
- Forged from 1080 carbon steel with a symmetrical convex bevel (unless requested otherwise)
- the handle is made from straight grained ash wood
- handle is oiled with linseed oil and secured in place with hardwood wedge
- head weight cca 1200 grams
- blade length - cca 7 cm, length from poll to blade 24 cm
- handle length (including the head) 50 cm
- optionally it can be made with a leather sheath to protect the blade.
