    Description

An early antique children's alphabet plate is offered. A Staffordshire ironstone ceramic plate circa 1850s, this plate is part of a series, Frolics of Youth. The series was created to gift to children for good behavior or special occasions. The embossed alphabet rim was educational and adds a unique charm. A wonderful central graphic of a boy and dog, The Dancing Master, and the plate is unmarked.
In antique condition with lots of crazing and no cracks, some minor edge chipping and the graphic is clear. For display use only. The plate measures approximately 8 1/4" in diameter
A rare child's plate and a lovely collectible.
The plate is part of the Frolics of Youth series, which is discussed at length and illustrated in Gifts for Good Children (1780-1880) written by Noel Riley and published by Richard Dennis.
