    Description

For sale is an incredibly rare 1850-A Switzerland Silver 1 Franc. This version of the Swiss Franc was minted just three years: 1850, 1851, and 1857, and it is believed that only 5.7 million of them were minted over those 3 years.
This coin is considered incredibly rare because so many of them were melted down over the centuries since then, so it is believed that not many survived at all. If you check out ANY year of this coin on ebay you'll see just how much they are going for in high grades such as this one. But to find a certified high grade coin like this is even more ultra-rare. So rare, in fact, that NGC has certified only 3 coins to this high grade--just THREE! That's how rare it is! The coin features the seated Helvetia on the obverse and the reverse features the date and value within a wreath. The coin is 90% silver, weighs 5 grams, and is about the size of a U.S. Quarter.
As you can see from the pics the coin is in great shape. It has a ash gray patina to it, and all images, lettering, and date is clear and bold. The coin does have some spotty toning to the reverse. The coin's biggest flaw is that NGC gave it a "details" designation due to it being cleaned at some point in its history, so we do not know exactly which AU grade it is, but the coin does not have have that poor artificial cleaned look like most cleaned coins do. It has amazing eye appeal. I did reduce the price of the coin nicely due to the Details designation otherwise the this coin would be priced MUCH higher.
This is an incredibly rare coin that would be on the top shelf of any collection! Thanks!
