Survival for the Prepared
- APOC
Survival for the prepared.
Purpose-designed highly functional survival and tactical tools, knives and axes that won't let you down.
New from APOC Survival Tools is the Barrens Pack Axe - This handy mid-size brawler is overbuilt to handle big tasks but nimble enough for smaller work. For the heaviest jobs the handle is long enough for two hands and really puts some power behind the large cutting bit. At 1 lb 15 ozs, the weight is not overbearing for carrying on the inside or outside of your pack with its MOLLE compatible sheath.
The Viking-style bearded head lets you choke up to easily make feather sticks, prep some tinder or carve notches for traps. It even works as an ulu style knife for food prep. Perfect for felling and fire prep or quick shelter assembly, the Barren is ideal to replace a larger, more cumbersome axe. The flattened poll (butt) is designed to be used as a hammer and allows you to drive stakes without splitting the ends, smash through ice, or as a less lethal alternative to the cutting edge on the backswing.
The whole hatchet is milled from a single piece of 9260 spring steel that's tempered to the low 50's HRC. A tough matte black anodized finish protects the metal from corrosion. Handle scales are solid milled G10, contoured for comfort with a swell at the end to keep it in your hand.

Comments
:
Great little pack axe up for any task no matter how big, and virtually indestructible. Notice blade profile inspired by iconic Viking bearded axe,
used as both a tool and a weapon by Scandinavian Vikings for over eight centuries. When a design lasts that long it’s generally for a good reason!
*
9260 steel
is a high-silicon alloy steel. Extremely tough with good spring characteristics and useful for its flexion as well as its resilience to deformation. Perfect for hard use tools like this axe.
Anodizing
is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide
finish
. ... This aluminum oxide is not applied to the surface like paint or plating, but is fully integrated with the underlying aluminum substrate, so it cannot chip or peel.

: Recommended. Looks bad-ass and virtually indestructible. Ergonomic design. I'm an enthusiast - a collector and a weekend warrior, active in local fairs and HEMA group. See my seller ratings and buy with confidence. Plus I ship fast :)
